I’m a bit confused, when an い adjective is used after a noun you conjugate it. But when it’s before the noun and its not a present/future sentence you leave the adjective as is? right?

    Thanks,

You can conjugate pre-nominal adjectives, but the resultant meaning is slightly different.

それは高い建物でした – that was a tall building (but it’s not a building any more)

それは高かった建物です – that was a tall building (but it’s not tall any more)

Perhaps not the best of examples, but you get the picture, yes?

Oh, ok.  if you conjugate the adjective before the word, it affects the meaning of the adjective towards the word

same goes for な adjectives, right?
