    Hey Everyone! はじめまして!

I’m not exactly new to TextFugu, but I’ve just realized I never introduced myself on the forums. So here I am!

My name is James, and I’ve just recently moved to Tokyo, Japan from Canada.

I’m here on a Working Holiday Visa, exploring Japan and seeking a job position in my field (Software Engineering) while staying with a friend.

I’ve taken a few Japanese courses in college alongside self-learning, and I would say that my Japanese level is pretty basic. My first step into learning the language was on TextFugu, but I haven’t touched it in a very long time. I decided since I’ve got some free time on my hands, that I’d try to brush up on my Japanese here!

Anyways, I’m looking forward to meeting you guys, and since I’m living in Tokyo I may be able to answer some of the questions you may have.

    Thanks for reading!
    またね〜

    James

Yep – once for a holiday, five years ago. Actually, exactly five years ago – today, I was visiting Osaka Castle and Aquarium. =)

@Joel Wow! That is awesome! How was Osaka? I really want to go visit there next.

I checked out the art aquarium in Nihonbashi, Tokyo a couple days ago, and it was stunning! I’d love to see the aquarium in Osaka.

It was good. Pretty different to Tokyo. The aquarium is seriously impressive (though I was a little bit disappointed by the castle). We didn’t spend much time in Osaka, though – even though we stayed at a hotel in Osaka for four nights, we only spent one day actually in Osaka. The other two days were spent in Koya-san and Nara.

@Joel Ah I see. I can’t wait to check out the aquarium there!

I also want to check out Nara, I’ve heard it’s very traditional looking there.

I just looked up Koya-san, and it looks fantastic!

Yah, it’s pretty. Full of temples, many of which you can spend the night at. I made a scrapbook of my trip, the digital version of which I uploaded to Facebook (albeit not quite at full size, which makes the text a tad tricky to read). You can find it here:

(Last time I checked, you could still view that without being my friend, but you do need to be logged into Facebook. Haven’t checked if it still works recently, though.)

@Joel Your scrapbook is incredible! I love the way you put all of your pictures together. Now I really want to do some more sight-seeing. It looks like you had a really great trip!

Do you have any plans to come and visit Japan again?

Thanks. I had my mother’s help – she’s big on scrapbooking – though I did all the actual work myself. =)

I certainly intend to visit Japan again, though I’ve made no firm plans as yet. My student club at uni is considering a trip in December next year to visit Harry Potter World (in Universal Studios, Osaka), and I’m also vaguely pondering visiting during the Olympics, maybe. Been making a huge list of places I want to visit when I can eventually go back.

    @Joel Nice! :)

A trip to Happy Potter World in Osaka sound like a lot of fun. Have you ever been to the one in Florida? I went there with my family a couple years ago. I’m addicted to their Butter Beer lol.

The Japan Olympics are in 2020 right? I think that would be an awesome time to visit. I bet Japan will be totally packed with visitors. Driving from Narita Airport to where I’m living in Tokyo on the day that I arrived, I saw parts of the new highways that they’re building in preparation for the Olympics.

Never been to Florida. I have, however, visited the Harry Potter studios in London.

And yah, they’re in 2020. I was thinking maybe I could get tickets to watch Australians compete for comparatively cheap (since they’re not the home team), though it could be worth going even just to see the new works they’re doing. =) The Tokaido shinkansen was built for the previous one in 1964 – the Chuo maglev won’t be done until 2027, though they’re pondering opening up a demonstration to Kofu in Yamanashi in time for 2020…
