Good Evening! (It’s evening here as i’m writing this, DUH)
My name is Sam and I’m from the US. I LOVE walks on the beach, dancing in the…… (actually I hate those, well mostly minus the beach part). I have been a hardcore gamer up until this point in my life and somehow learning Japanese has just torn me away from that, and honestly I don’t mind. I feel so much smarter each day because I am learning something new and amazing!
I started learning Japanese about a week ago and already have Hiragana mostly under my belt, was able to do that practice paper with a good amount of ease. I think I can attribute that accomplishment to how this site has us start learning. Everything is just starting to seem to fall into place with reading, what it sounds like not what it means (because I don’t really know any words in Japanese yet! =O). I am really looking forward to using this to help me learn Japanese and cannot wait until the day where I can carry on a conversation in this language and watch that episode of an anime with no subtitles!
さよのら!
February 22, 2014 at 8:23 am #44165Even knowing 0 proper Japanese words, it’s a pretty cool thing to see recognizable characters on screen and then realize it actually is something you know. I remember shortly after starting with hiragana and katakana and watching Pacific Rim, and being able to go “Hey, that monster just destroyed a… VI-DE-O store!”
February 22, 2014 at 1:46 pm #44170Welcome!
First little pointer, you seem to be getting your As and Os confused. It’s こんばん and さよなら (also, I wouldn’t use さよなら in this context anyway, but that’s a different matter). Plus, it’s こんばんは (though still pronounced “konbanwa”) – you’ll be learning the reason for it being written like that before too long. =)
February 22, 2014 at 6:12 pm #44173It is cool being able to pick out a few words in my favorite anime/anime theme songs now and be able to recognize some words immediately and be like OOOOH I KNOW THAT. Thanks for the pointers Joel appreciate it. Just learned about it is, it was, it is not, and it was not. WOOOOOOW that was tough but not tough if that makes sense. Just going to take some practice and keep on moving forward!
