    I always believed you pronounced it as “Jya-arimasen”

    The way I think of is that し and じ are a little bit different when it comes to ゃ, ゅ and ょ.
    I think
    しゃ = sha
    しゅ = shu
    しょ = sho
    じゃ = ja
    じゅ = ju
    じょ = jo

    This is also the way I type it. It doesn’t give me problems, and to me it doesn’t really sounds like it’s wrong.
    So in romanji I would say “jaarimasen”

    thanks for the replys you two
    to be honest there simaler enough that it sounds the same when you say it anyway it just had me confused about the way you type it as the worksheet was called jaarimasen not jyaarimasen

    You will see it written as “jya” around the place, but that a different romanisation, not a different pronunciation – it’s written as “jya” to fit the pattern of “kya” and “hya”, but there’s a reason that most people romanise it as “ja” instead.
