I’m at the end of Season 6 right now, working through the “becoming” section with なる and all that. It covers how to become adjectives or nouns (ie become interesting, become a doctor), but it doesn’t mention how to use なる with verbs. So, say I wanted to say something like “studying Japanese has become difficult.” Is that a whole other topic? Or should I know how to say that right now?

You want a nominaliser. You’ll learn that in season six – you’re still in five, now. Specifically, here:

You need to nominalise “studying Japanese”.

    日本語を勉強するのは難しくなっていた。

Mind you, you could also say “Japanese study” instead of “studying Japanese”, and that’s a noun already, which means you can already form that sentence.
