    Hey everyone,

I am a student studying animation, who has just moved to Tokyo! I know a lot about American (Disney-like) animation, but very little about the Japanese manga and anime style. Hence, moving to Japan is a chance for me to learn more about said style via a cultural exchange (at least that’s what my Visa says).

As part of going on this adventure, I hope to learn the language through-out my stay here in Japan (and will do my best to contribute while I can via the forums). Currently I know a little Japanese, but hope to be able to enjoy conversation with the locals before I leave a year from now.

To the Text-Fugu team: I’ve looked at the first lesson, I think the teaching style is great and I’m looking forward to doing more. Thanks so much for providing such a thoughtful passageway into Japanese \..(^ . ^)../

    じゃ、また!

    Welcome!

Kinda envious of you. =P Which bit of Tokyo? You studying at a university, or something? Do you get the chance for any sightseeing? =)

Hey thanks for the welcome! And yeah, I am extremely fortunate to have this opportunity – I definitely do not take it for granted. I am a university student, doing part-time work with computer graphics companies and slightly-less-than-part-time on my own research.

Living wise, I’m in a small prefecture called Setagaya, which is in the Shibuya ward area. As for the sight-seeing, I took two weeks off and traveled across Kyoto and Osaka (had too much food & Sake, visited temples and shrines, and spoke very poor Japanese to everyone). I hope to do many more trips during the year, depending on what I can afford!

It’s really a great place, easy to get lost in the massive winding corridors through the middle of the cities :)

So anyway, enough about me – what are you studying Japanese, any pro tips from a master like yourself?
