I wrote the top sentence in Lang-8, and got the following correction:
今日は新しい５漢字を書きました。
今日は新しく５個の漢字を書きました。I’m not about to doubt the person correcting me, but as far as I can tell I did things correctly. My attempt to say “new” should be an adjective, not an adverb correct? However, Textfugu says when doing an i adjective before a noun don’t change anything, and it says when doing an i adverb change it the い to a く.
What am I missing?
Oh wait, is that like the difference between:
Quickly, he ran to the store.
and
He quickly ran to the store.?
I think it might have been better for you to write in the first place:
今日は新しい５漢字を書きました。
↓
今日は新しい５個の漢字を習って書いてみました。What you had originally wrote was probably taken literally I’m guessing, like you discovered 5 never before seen kanji and wrote it.
Now the correction you are given is that you newly wrote 5 kanji which is closer to what you wanted to say.
Now what I gave you, just gives more context: “I learned 5 new kanji and tried to write them.”
