    I don’t understand the grammar in the sentence 私は公園を歩きます. I assume it means ‘I walk the park’? However, isn’t 歩く an intransitive verb? Therefore, isn’t it impossible to use it with the particle を?

    Particle を can also indicate route for motion verbs, so it’s “I walk through the park”.

    海を泳ご is the same sort of thing.

    don’t you mean 泳ぐ?

    It can also be used with trans. verbs ie
    彼女はヨーロッパ諸国を旅行している。
    Saying she is traveling >through<
