Last “Good Life” one we’re going to do for a little while. We’ll switch to something else next week. This last sentence concludes the conversation!

    だって パパは そのとき…泣いていたから。

    1. What does だって mean?

    2. What does だってパパはそのとき… mean?

    3. What does 泣いていたから mean?

    4. What’s the whole sentence?

    5. What’s the deal with the newborn baby not crying, and the father crying instead. Perhaps the father is really the baby? 0.0

    1. “だって” means “however” or “even though”. It comments on what was said before – what either the speaker or someone else said.

    2. “だってパパはそのとき…” means “However, that time Papa…”

    3. “泣いていたから” means “because (subject) was crying”

    4. I would translate the entire sentence as:
“Although, it’s because Papa was crying that time.”

    5. Perhaps… O.O

Lol seriously, what is up with this drama. Is it because something happened to the wife?

    だって パパは そのとき…泣いていたから。

    1. What does だって mean?
Basically it comes off as ‘but, but, but….’ In my opinion it’s kind of girly or childish.’

    2. What does だってパパはそのとき… mean?
    But, papa, you were…

    3. What does 泣いていたから mean?
    because you were crying…

    4. What’s the whole sentence?
But, papa, you were the one crying!

    *ANSWERS*

    1. What does だって mean?
kind of like “because” but it is indicating a reason for something (as in, he’s indicating a reason for him saying earlier he remembered his date of birth.

    2. What does だってパパはそのとき… mean?
    “Because, at that time Papa…”

    3. What does 泣いていたから mean?
    “because (papa) was crying”

    4. What’s the whole sentence?
“Because at that time Papa was crying”

    @missing – I think so, though I haven’t seen the drama myself yet…

    1. I think in this context it means “because”, on pair with 「から」 in the end.
    2. I’d translate it as “Because at that time my father…”
    3. I’d translate it as “Because was crying”.
    4. I’d translate the whole sentence as “Because at that time… my father was crying”.
    5. I think, those were happy tears for having such a son.
    [update]
Seems I’ve managed to answer questions 1-4 more or less correctly.
As for fifth question – it’s a matter of opinion, although seeing the drama might clarify things.
Actually, this drama seems to be quite worth watching.
