Hey guys. I’ve played and picked around with the AJATT 10,000 sentence mining method but I can’t seem to create a perfect format to suit these sentences.

The most important thing to keep in mind is, you have to make sure that you understand every part of the sentence.

This part I’ve read on a bunch of sentence mining blogs already and I still can’t grasp this concept. SO みんなで一緒に考えましょう!

I guess the easiest format is Japanese -> English, unless you want to create fields that explain every single word and grammar point in Japanese on the back.

    Let me illustrate an example.

    【Front】
    私の事を笑いのネタにして、人気者になろうとでも思ってるんでしょう!?

    さすが、ネガティ部ですね。

    必殺 褒め殺し!!

    【Back】
    わたしのことをわらいのネタにして、にんきものになろうとでもおもってるんでしょう!?

    ・・・・

    ひっさつわざ ほめごろし!!

    褒め殺し【ほめごろし】とは、元々は対象をほめることでその対象を「だめにしてしまうこと」を指していたが、近年、だめにすることを目的として「ほめる」ことをも意味するようになった。

    【Front】

    【かえって】

    最近さ、コーヒー飲んだら、テンションが上がるでしょう?だって、カフェインが入ってるからだよね。そう思ってたけど、コーヒー飲んでみたら、かえって眠くなった。それ、おかしくねえ?

    【Back】

So like lately, if you drink coffee, テンションがあがるでしょう?I mean cuz like there’s caffeine in it right? So that’s what I thought but when I (tried to) drink coffee, かえって I got sleepy. Isn’t that weird?

【かえって】 contrary to one’s expectations an opposite result comes about

These are just 2 cards that I have.
Yeah but analyzing just about every part of sentence in that manner slows down what you are trying to learn I feel. Though I guess that part is choosing sentences just above your level.

I think it’s important not to introduce more than two new vocab words or one grammar point per sentence (that would be just a bit above one’s level, as you said). That way you won’t be slowed down by analyzing every part. But both you cards are already like that, right? Only one thing explained on the back?

I’ll report back again when I hit around 300 sentences. Right now, I only have 38 and reattempted it for not a long time so I’m going to test out what works for a little bit.

I haven’t the faintest idea what it is you’re trying to do…

How to effectively learn a sentence after you “mine” it.

Ok. Now I have the faintest idea.

Is this like that bit from The Phantom Toolbooth, where numbers grow on trees and words have to be dug out of the ground?
