    Hi All,

    Quick question!

I am on chapter 7.4 learning ‘but’ and something has confused me.. In the example sentences は is used to identify the food that is being eaten..

    e.g 肉は食べますがすしを食べません。

Shouldn’t this be を? I thought it was a mistake initially but can be found in most of the sentences..

Is it to do with specifying the topic?

    お願いします!

Yes, は marks the topic. When the topic is also the subject or object, the topic marker は replaces the subject marker が or object marker を. は is also used for contrasting things.
