Hey all, I decided to dive in at the great price and be serious about learning another language.

But, I am learning Japanese to be able to travel to Japan with my wife and not need a guide or translator. My wife was able to travel to Japan years ago and we really want to travel there together and see the places she saw. Also to see the places that her grandfather saw years ago while he was in the Navy.

I love living in California and the West Coast because the area is so diverse. I want to be able to communicate with more of the people in the area.

And last but not least, my brain could use a good workout. Something challenging but not beyond my ability.

    Cheers, all.

Welcome to Textfugu! I also want to travel in Japan freely one day. Are there that many people speaking Japanese in California?

Not as many as Chinese or Vietnamese, but I didn’t mention how I like Japanese because I can pronounce the syllables without difficulty.
