I work for an American company, but we have Japanese offices. For the last 6 or 8 months, I’ve been working with a team from Japan. It’s not exactly working with, but more like helping out. We correspond by email almost every day and we have weekly conference calls. (all of this is assisted by a translator. I’m definitely a beginning Japanese student.) We’re engineers so I’ve been reviewing their drawings, making suggestions and the like. I work in the main office, so I also have easier access to chief engineers and other experienced colleagues to ask for advice. We work in the medical devices field, so we are heavily regulated. Working in HQ (sorry, I just wanted to say “HQ” ;) ) I’m also more aware of our various internal and external requirements. That’s the kind of stuff I help them with mostly. Sorry for the rambling intro, but I wanted to establish the context of the situation.

Anywho, I’ve been promoted and, after some transitioning with my replacement, I won’t be working with them any more. I’m looking for ways to express that I really enjoyed working with them. They also taught me quite a bit, both about Japanese and about Engineering. I’ve only been out of school for a year or so and they are much more experienced than I am. I’d like to thank them, wish them good luck in the future, let them know that I’d still like to keep up our correspondence and that they can also feel free to ask for my help in the future if they need any thing.

Any help or suggestions you have are greatly appreciated!
