First of all, Happy New Year to all of you!

My name is Anthony and I am a Computer Engineering student currently residing in Denmark, with a lasting interest towards Asian cultures. The Japanese language and culture has become more and more a special interest of mine since mid-last year and for 2015 I decided to start to learn the Japanese language.

I also found a friend, who wants to learn the language as well and she introduced me to Textfugu and Tofugu, too. Hopefully, together, we will motivate each other along this journey to achieve our goals. :-)

I have an interest towards nature, literature and technology. I just started my own (first) startup and I am fortunate enough to work part time as an IT student alongside my studies. I am hard working and a dedicated fellow and looking forward to meeting you all and helping each other in the forums.

To finish up this introduction, I wanted to share my answer to the question in Season one of the textbook:

Question #1: Why Are You Learning Japanese?

I want to learn Japanese because:

    • I want to live in Tokyo and to work for Google as a software engineer on their core products.
    • I want to explore the wards of Tokyo.
    • I want to embrace the Japanese culture and way of living.

    Happy learning,
    Anthony.

    Hey, Anthony!

What has made you grow more interested recently?

    Hey Codeacula!

It is quite hard to give a concrete answer; influence from my surroundings, friends and even social media. Also, I am in a period where I am shaping my personality, my future and therefore I had more time getting into and reading up on Japanese culture. These combined with curiosity made me interested in it.

If I may ask, how long have you been learning Japanese and how is the learning curve?

I’ve been learning Japanese for…three or more years, now?

I got serious about it again a few months ago. I started with hiragana, then I started the lessons. For me it’s not the learning curve that’s the issue yet, since I seem to pick up languages well. It’s having kids and a job and only two hours a night. Hopefully EtoEto will be friendlier with mobile platforms so I can learn on the go easier.

    Hope that helped!

Glad to hear that! I’m also looking forward to EtoEto, as I’m facing similar issues with time and it is pretty hard at the moment to make a habit out of visiting this website.

All the best with learning the language!
