I’ve been using Textfugu for a little while now, but I also know there are (obviously) other resources/textbooks out there.

I have a lot of wonderful online resources already faved and bookmarked, and will make great use of them

the main thing I’m kind of curious about is using Genki I & II alongside textfugu.

I know textfugu and Genki I cover a lot of the same stuff, mainly I’m just curious what kind of benefit, if any at all, I’d gain from having Genki.

Also hey, Koichi, you should totally one day make a print version of Textfugu, a lot of people like having something they can hold in their hands, even if it is just a supplement to go along with the online book! just a thought~!

I used TextFugu as an additional research when studying at uni, and we used Nakama as the text book. It worked pretty well for me, and we coincidentally tended to be covering roughly the same things at roughly the same times.

I also bought Japanese for Busy People, and the Dictionaries of Japanese Grammar.

I use Genki alongside Textfugu (I also use wanikani and Assimil) and I find Genki to be a bit more faster paced. That is it covers more grammar and vocab within a shorter amount of space. Thus, I heavily recommend you purchase the workbook that goes along with Genki as you’ll need the extra practice to memorize and understand the topics, unlike textfugu which mainly just uses Anki for outside work. There are some overlaps but I would say they compliment each other nicely. Genki for me is a bit harder to follow and not as leisurely as textfugu but that is good as you need to put in hard work to understand learn a language. Plus, it is very important to build a strong base in the basics so I would definitely purchase it!
Another thing I like about Genki is that it covers more colloquial/everyday speech rather than formal. I didn’t know a lot of the phrases on textfugu were more ‘formal’ and not commonly used in everyday life, so Genki is also practical in regards to that.
