2 years and counting.
Btw, here is the 8 minute video of Khatzumoto speaking Japanese http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejRkuX1RGf4 back in 2009
Anyway, while music market for idols is huge, the thing that goes along with their music market are the slew of variety shows that they appear in. “Its more of what they do offstage then what they do onstage”.
I don’t feel like sharing my resources right now just because I don’t feel like it lol. It’s hot and humid here where I am right now even though its night, and I have to wake up very early morning tomorrow.
June 30, 2012 at 9:26 am #32541ProTip: Get a hobby. Anime, idols, listening to japanese news, or better yet a combination of it all.
BTW missing, what AKB48 centered variety shows do you watch/exist? I only watch Jidoushabu and AKBingo, but I’m sure I’m still missing out on a lot, 例えば This one where Itano tomomi vs. some EXILE member were playing a dancing game… seemed interesting. I’m really gonna try to get the best of my increasing interest in AKB48 >.>
Now that I remember the way I learned english, it makes the immersion method much more credible. I was placed in kindergarten with my only knowledge of the english language being bathroom and apple. Can’t remember much, but by the time I was in 2nd grade I knew English, as much or even more than my classmates. English school+english tv+english friends made for an awesome immersion environment. I didn’t forget spanish, though.
June 30, 2012 at 9:34 am #32543Everyone has different ways of learning, try a bit of everything, keep the stuff that works for you, ignore the stuff that doesn’t.
LIstening to Japanese when you don’t know Japanese will get you to understand the rhythms and sounds of the language,
Reading is pretty much impossible without kana and Kanji, so its not really possible to immerse yourself in that until you read a reasonable level.
The thing that really works is having the drive and ambition to learn japanese, and keep at it, and keep doing it, however you do it.

June 30, 2012 at 3:17 pm #32574I hear some people say subtitles are a crutch, and I don’t disagree, but sometimes I just need to understand what I’m watching on TV. ;) I still try to listen as well as read, and find myself pausing, rewinding, listening, and looking up words, and noting them for later. An hour show may take me 90 minutes to watch, but I think that’s a good sign.
Subtitles are better than nothing. Still, I can’t wait to turn them off.

July 6, 2012 at 6:12 pm #32900Just youtube search AJATT and watch videos of people who have followed this method. They will show you around their “immersive” Japanese room.
You don’t want to be those people. They’re losers. Sorry.
If you want to seriously learn a language, you have to study, not watch anime.
If you just want to learn basic stuff to help you get around when you travel Japan, then sure.Immersion is good. But it shouldn’t be your only means of study if you want to really learn the language.

July 7, 2012 at 9:48 am #32942Haha, c’mon perhaps my reply wasn’t worded the best but you get my point.
AJATT should be supplemental. Not your primary way of learning. Sorry.

I think I’ll reword mine too.
July 7, 2012 at 10:22 am #32945I can’t help finding the idea of “All” being supplemental kind of amusing. ;)
I’d say oxymoronic, but that comes off a bit harsh.
