So, I had an odd little question so I decided to make a thread about it.
I was wondering if most Japanese people can read upside-down? Native English speakers can for the most part read English upside-down, but Kanji seems like it may be quite a bit harder to read. Would you think that most natives would be able to do that, or would they have to practice? It seems like it may be a bit harder to do.On that same note that little Fugu up in the corner told me that Asians tend to have crusty earwax and Europeans and Americans tend to have waxy/gooey earwax (I’m in-between? I checked but its definitely not gooey and not particularly crumbly). I was wondering if anyone else had any fun facts to share, or odd questions they want answered.

May 1, 2012 at 4:55 pm #30104I’m pretty sure they can. It’s hard to imagine from our perspective as English speakers and growing up the English language but its pretty much the same level as we can read English upside down.
I have an odd question. If the employees at Textfugu were idols, (Koichi, Hashi, Viet, and John←(会社員不明)), who’s goodzu and merchandise would you buy?
May 1, 2012 at 5:05 pm #30106I remember learning that fun fact about earwax.. I then realized why those ear cleaners they love so much work for them. I can’t imagine using them myself, with gooey ear wax and all lol. I’ll stick with q tips :-P.
I once tried to look up how they store their chopsticks. Random I know. I couldn’t find the answer online though so I’m still not sure. In a drawer? Seperated by pairs somehow? I keep all my chopsticks together in a cup. =^..^=
=^..^=May 1, 2012 at 6:03 pm #30107@missingno: Hmmm, dunno, Then again Hashi seems like a pretty cool dude… yea, maybe like a Hashi cell phone strap, or maybe Koichi. It depends on who wins in Starcraft more.
May 1, 2012 at 7:11 pm #30109I can imagine it now…… Textfugu crew in black slacks, jacket, suit and black casual shirt, in a professionally taken picture with dark background while they do an EXILEみたいな決めポーズ.
Hmm yes I think it could work out.
Or they could just do drag. All we need is a woman fanbase that will ship them.
May 2, 2012 at 8:00 am #30144I might pay to see the TextFugu team in drag.
Oh, and I forgot this one, apparently Japanese people intrinsically hate root-beer. Can anyone vouch for that?
May 2, 2012 at 8:05 am #30145Only Americans drink that stuff, the rest of the world knows what real beer is.
May 2, 2012 at 8:18 am #30146Heh, I haven’t had a root-beer in years… Recently I’ve just been living off of vanilla flavored almond milk.
May 2, 2012 at 11:26 am #30206A lot of our videos usually have either me or Koichi in drag anyway :o
May 2, 2012 at 11:43 am #30218I wonder if Japanese ear wax properties are related to diet. I find it hard to believe DNA would code for ear wax.
Japanese diets are lower in fats so maybe thats why they’re ears are less gooey.
May 2, 2012 at 11:46 am #30220After hearing rants on EVERYTHING genes dictate I’m pretty earwax is in there somewhere.
I’m 93.77% positive, but there might be some outside factors too though.- This reply was modified 12 years, 6 months ago by Tom Jensen.

May 2, 2012 at 6:26 pm #30236@Tom Jensen: Check out the Tofugu video “Shit Otaku Say” to see Koichi wearing several different wigs ;)
