November 16, 2013 at 7:39 am #42385[Rikai-kun, for people who use Firefox, is the Chrome equivalent of Rikai-chan.] For some unapparent reason, Rikai-kun hasn’t been working on the computers I use at uni for a while now. I’ve tried playing with the (very limited) settings and re-installing it a few times but nothing works. Does anyone know of any alternative Chrome extensions that do the same thing (that is, have mouse-over translations of Japanese text)? I like trying to read Japanese news articles on NHK (the “Easy” one) in between bouts of studying and it’s getting annoying having to look up stuff manually, and by “manually” I mean copypaste it into jisho.org, which just isn’t instant enough for me ;) November 16, 2013 at 8:40 am #42386Have you tried different browsers? November 16, 2013 at 1:18 pm #42388Wait, doesn’t the NHK Easy page do the mouse-over already? It did it on my iPad, and certainly don’t have Rikai-anything installed. November 18, 2013 at 4:10 pm #42417@Aikibujin: Yeah, I guess I could try using Firefox and install Rikai-chan but it would be annoying to have to keep switching browsers; would rather something that works with Chrome. @Joel: The mouseover is only for certain words. Also, I prefer to read without the furigana on so that my eyes aren’t drawn to it for words that I should know; Rikai-kun can give me the readings for specific words without having to automatically see them for all. Plus it’s nice to have an English translation to fall back on when you can’t get your head around the Japanese one that’s given :P
Sometimes I look up song lyrics or other bits here and there on different sites and Rikai-kun is a handy thing to have.November 18, 2013 at 4:19 pm #42419If you switch to Firefox you can use Rikaisama, which is better than both chan and kun: November 18, 2013 at 11:25 pm #42422Dude… November 19, 2013 at 5:00 pm #42430“Sanseido web dictionary support” – hm, that sounds pretty good. Similarly for the option to have different E-J dictionaries. If someone were to make an improved version of Rikaisama, what would they call it, I wonder… November 19, 2013 at 5:04 pm #42431Rikaidono.
