    I want to know how to say that someone is an old friend, and I think it would be 古い友, but I don’t want to mean that they’re aged well.  I want to mean that I’ve known them for an extended period of time. Would it be the same word? Thanks. :)

    Well, you don’t use 古い in reference to people anyway, so… no.

    My dictionary suggests 旧友 or 旧知, but dictionaries are not infallible.

    Oh yes, I certainly agree that dictionaries are not infallible.  But those words Joel mentioned should be fine.
