Yep. Syncing in Anki 2 with the new android app works great. New decks, Audio, Progression, Schedules. It’s all good. Haven’t got any issues with it yet.
October 6, 2012 at 6:14 pm #36012I don’t know what they were thinking. This program essentially makes extremely simple things incredibly confusing. I just want to get down and dirty with SRS. The program is too assuming, and seems to “know” what the user wants more than the user, to the point of driving the user up a tree.
I miss 1.2.8… but I’ve already screwed up my decks on there, being so assured I would love 2.0 and wouldn’t need to look back. Whoops.
October 7, 2012 at 4:36 am #36040I upgraded to Anki2 as well, and I think it is a lot better. As Jeffrey I am not really an advanced user either, but I enjoy being able to easily sync with my smartphone (and it does indeed work very well!). I do not miss any features from Anki 1.2, but I like the new features:
When you import a deck into another deck you can get a list of the imported decks on your deck screen and choose to study only a specific “sub-deck”.
When you learn new cards you will get each new card at least 2 times the first time you go through them.
Syncing with other computers / devices is super easy. You just need to have an anki-web account and everything else handles itself.So.. If you use some of the more advanced features of Anki 1.2 you should probably wait at least till Anki 2 is out of beta. If not, I would recommend switching now. :)
October 7, 2012 at 9:40 am #36042I started with Anki 2 and I must say, I think the program has a UX worse than the Nokia N-Gage. Simple things like importing a deck into another deck, and flipping all cards so you can use both sides of them for both answer and question are made so stupidly difficult.
I tried Anki 1.2, it is a lot better, however it has a fairly shitty UX as well.Maybe it’s something all flash card applications suffer from. I haven’t tried Mnemosyne or whatever it is called yet, figure I will once I’m through my current cards.
October 15, 2012 at 4:09 am #36235So Anki 2.0 have released and out of beta, personally I enjoy it a lot more and works a lot better then the previous versions by far, sure some features is gone and some stuff is overall stupidly hidden but I barely use those things so for me this works wonders.
Mostly in the end I’m using the Ankidroid port however, and since it’s 2.0 line it’s been so much much better then the previous ones. The ankidroid is not out of beta yet, at v 2.0 beta 19
October 15, 2012 at 11:54 am #36238Fin: If you really hate it so much why don’t you make it better? It is open source, after all.
You’re saying some pretty incendiary things that, while true, are completely off base and unnecessary. The program doesn’t need the pretty UI or elaborate functionality that you think it should have. The truth of the matter is that all those things simply serve to distract you from your studying.
No. It’s not the simplest thing in the world to use. Yes, it can be frustrating…but calling it shitty is a little low, man. IT’S FREE, DAMNIT. You want something better? Then go out and pay for it.
October 15, 2012 at 12:03 pm #36241Only problem being that if you pay, there isn’t anything better than anki lol
October 15, 2012 at 8:07 pm #36258“The truth of the matter is that all those things simply serve to distract you from your studying.”
No. You’re being silly. Me being able to flip cards more easily or import a deck into another deck more easily would as a matter of fact do the exact opposite of that. I never asked for a flashy UI and I never asked for more features. As a matter of fact I’d like to see less features out of the box.
“You want something better? Then go out and pay for it.”
Or I could just, you know, do what I said I did, and use 1.2. If there is a better tool out there that I can pay for I’m up for that too though. And I still haven’t tried Mnemosyne.
As for improving the program itself, it is not within my reach, I don’t know how to program and I don’t intend to. Does this mean I am less competent in judging how good a program is? Perhaps. Does it mean I am incompetent in judging how useful the program is to me? To me, the answer is clearly no.
I will concede that calling it shitty is an insufficient shortcut, and if I were to write a real review, it would of course be more professional, but this is merely my own little soap box. Anki 2 has a mess of an UX.
