Since I’ve upgraded to Anki 2, importing new decks is a bit more of a pain. Now, when I import new notes/cards/etc. they go into a new deck. Then I have to open the browser and move all of the cards from the newly created deck to the appropriate existing deck. Not the end of the world (sorry Mayans) but still irritating. Does anyone know a better way to do this?

If not, would it be possible to get all of the notes for a season in a few consolidated decks? In other words, all of the season two vocab in one “season two vocab” deck, the sentences in a “season two sentences” deck, and so on. That would reduce the number of imports.

That being said, I do like the everything else about the new Anki.

I found that if you change the name of each additional Deck to match the first one e.g. ‘Textfugu Sentences’ they will import correctly. You may have to reset the number of cards due.

A further thought… Unless you’re as reckless as me then backing up before hand may be sensible.

I’ll give that a try. Will that overwrite the files form the original decks? Don’t worry, I’ll make a back up first :D

It didn’t overwrite when I did it, just added the new ones. It also kept the due dates on the cards already in the deck. The only thing it did do was that everything imported became due immediately so I just changed the relevant option to how many I actually wanted.

    Later that same evening…

I may have misunderstood. If you mean the various files sentences1.apkg sentences2.apkg etc. then all I did was create separate directories / folders for them before renaming and then importing. The zip files may do that automatically when you expand them but I use P7Zip which gives you the option to extract to sub-folders anyway.

Renaming the downloaded files to the exact same name as your original deck works for me (OS X + Android). Both the .anki file and .media folder need to be renamed though.

This should probably be a sticky, since there’s no search I can find on these forum…
