I thought I’d start in a different language to stand out :) That about sums up the extent of my French, even though I took 5 years of it in school (Canadian, woo!).
I’ve been “learning” Japanese for 2-3 years now. Self-taught means barely-started for me – I’ve had to relearn hiragana and I’ve never mastered katakana. I can recognize a few kanji, but mostly my knowledge comes from the repetition of anime (“Nani?!”). This (Textfugu) is an investment into the goal of learning Japanese for real.
I hope to do a touristy visit of Japan in 2014. I don’t know if I’ll be proficient by then, but I want to get a good start. I’d love to do a less-touristy visit to Japan as well, and see all the places that tourists miss. I went to Rome and did the tourist schtick and found it fun but expensive (and also their cab drivers cheated me in 3 out of 3 cab rides). So, a goal is to be able to get around Japan without a guide, without requiring an English tour, etc.
Other than Japanese my interests include reading, crocheting, and video games. I’m actually into WRPGs more than JRPGs, but I still play them all! Ummm… That’s about it. Hi all!
