    Hi, I’m new.

Since adding sentences 3 anki does not automatically play the media of any cards. There’s meant to be an option to switch that on and off under “deck options”, which I can’t find, only deck properties and that doesn’t seem to have that option. Can anyone help, thanks. I’m using xubuntu.

No wait, I have now found and selected “automatically play audio” and it still doesn’t. Probably too complex a question to ask here.

Have you made sure the .anki file and the media folder are together in the same folder?

I know this is kind of an old-ish post, but I am also having this problem.

I keep my Anki files organized in my public Dropbox folder. I go between two computers and an Android phone, all using Anki.

I already went through the steps detailed here on the Anki site to make it compatible with Dropbox, so that’s not a problem. When I import a new deck into an existing deck, the cards themselves carry over, but the media does not. I manually copy and paste the audio files into correct “DecknameHere.media” folder each time. My Anki file (“DecknameHere.anki”) is inside the same folder as the “DecknameHere.media” folder.

However when I am reviewing my cards, my audio does not play back (except on my hiragana deck… which is a little peculiar, but that deck never had anything new imported into it). I am starting to find myself mispronouncing words because I don’t have the audio to help me out, and since I’m still really new I don’t want to put myself at an early disadvantage!

This thread may be of some use to you http://www.textfugu.com/bb/topic/anki-media-syncing-problem-on-iphone-anki-mobile/

Although you have an Android, the same steps could apply for both platforms.

Well, I did discover a file on my phone for AnkiDroid that seems to have .anki files and some media (only for my Katakana deck, which is weird). It definitely seems like there’s some wonky stuff going on with media syncing. I don’t get the “missing media” error message, and when I go into my card browser I can see next to the description [sound:c11-1.mp3] and whatnot. However when I go through my cards and reveal the answers, nothing plays back.

So an update (just in case other people are having the same problem as I am with AnkiDroid)–it looks like my .media folders are being created, but none of the media itself is being carried over to my phone. I ended up having to manually copy all my audio/visual files and drop it into the folders on my SD card. Most of the cards now work with audio! However there are a few that are still having issues. It’s a big improvement from yesterday.
