    wuhu season 5 done :)
season 6 is now 6 lessons, so I will be able to reach my goal in time(finish TextFugu by the end of the year) ^^

    New goals:
    - At least 100 new words a week
    . At least 1 kanji a day
    - Use lang-8 more often as I get better
    - Find some proper materials to use after TexFugu

“Increase the amount of kanji & kanji vocab I learn.”

Well I have definitely been doing that, I must study kanji 10 times as much as I was back then.

I don’t really have anything new to add, but I am going to increase the amount of words I learn from the ultimate lists from 20 –> 30 a day as of tomorrow and continue doing 30-60 minutes of Read the Kanji every day.

and I want to finish every ultimate list within 3 weeks, I haven’t done any of the TextFugu lessons in a while because I would rather have them finished off first. Not sure if that’s the best way to do it but if I’m trying to learn 30 words a day, doing Anki reviews while learning kanji + misc vocab on Read the Kanji I think I’ll hit information overload. D:

@Mark Weber: Try and balance your vocabulary and kanji study a bit more: 100 words a week seems a bit much in comparison to 7 kanji a week. The more kanji you know, the faster it’ll be to learn those words, plus you’ll actually be able to learn their proper form more easily (i.e. kanji form instead of just hiragana). Maybe try like 70 words and 14 kanji a week; that’ll decrease your words per day from about 14 to 10 and increase your kanji from 1 to 2. Or… maybe do 4 or 5 kanji every second day, leaving that extra day to review the kanji you’ve already “learned” the previous day.

Totally up to you, though. I just think it sounds a little better to keep things a bit more balanced, so your not focussing all your efforts in one are and letting the other one just drag along. I know kanji are hard at first, but since you probably get a TON of reviews from doing 100 vocab words a week, reducing them to spend more time on kanji should help :)

    Well there’s a nice idea.

    My goals are:
    - Finish “Genki II” by the end of the year (that’s my main resource after TextFugu, though I do mix with other books and Tae kim’s guide).
    - Definitely post more on lang-8.
    - Learn at least 10 new words a day where from those I learn at least 5 Kanji.

So 2011 is almost done, and I guess I am not the only one who set some concrete goals to reach before the end of the year :D

So yeah. 100 words a week didn’t work out for long, only 5 weeks or so and after that the reviews just became too much to add new words…
Also I figured that I should start RTK or at least do something to expand my kanji knowledge, because what good is it to learn a word if you only know it in hiragana?? :P
So I started RTK, which is working out great this far, I think I should be done by around 40-50 days :D I know some people like to do nothing but RTK, but I still have reviews from all stuff I did previously and I like to add some new grammar and a few words just to keep my brain in shape.
    So:
    100 words a week = failed
1 kanji a day -> started RTK instead

    Goals completed:
Use lang-8 more – with over 1/3 of my total posts being from December I think I can safely say I have had a nice increase in amount and in length of each entry
TextFugu done – pretty easy stuff I have been done for almost a month
Find proper materials – RTK, Japanese sentence patterns[...], Tae Kim – Yep things are covered nicely :D

New goals for the next year:
    - Finish RTK before end of February
    - Increase immersion
    - Keep up the current speed of learning ^^

Good luck to everyone else, hope you reached the concrete goals you have set for yourself this year!

Increasing my workload from 10 words a day to about 30; not sure how much more work this is though. Want to try to finish the Tae Kim site by this week as well. Have one more set of articles to read. After finishing, it’s going to be just going back through Textfugu to see if I missed anything, look up more grammar constructs, continue my output on Lang-8, then consult a tutor online.

So… 2012. Any Japanese themed resolutions?

This is going to be the year I do RTK. I’ve started… and as overwhelming as it seems, I’m sure it won’t take me all year.

It’s also going to be the year I try and get to JLP level 4. I figured aiming for level 5 wouldn’t be enough of a challenge for an entire year, so thought I’d push myself. No idea if it’s realistic, but hey.

Finish RTK by mid/end of February so that I sort of know the meanings of the 2136 kanji, I was going to do that anyway though so it’s a pretty bad resolution. I’m on like 350/2136 now but there’s a lot of kanji I already know that I haven’t reached in the book yet so I’m not truly learning 2136 in total

Goal for 2012: assassinate all members of AKB48. With an AK47. Not a particularly stealthy assassination, but still.

But seriously, New Years’ resolutions are kinda stupid, so I don’t have any.

Personally, I don’t think resolutions for the new year are stupid. They’ve worked for me for the past couple of years. They can be a powerful motivator, as long as you don’t set unrealistic goals that are doomed to fail from January 1st.

Seems like I have the same goals as ooh_a_robot for this year, with an extra one added in the mix:

    * Complete Remembering The Kanji by June. I actually started in late November, but that proved to be the most horrible time of year to have started, with family visiting me for the first time in California, and a week-long trip to Las Vegas to top off the year.
    * Getting my JPLT Level 4. Level 5 is not an option – it’s either Level 4 or bust :)
    * Since I’m visiting Japan for the first time around September / October, I want to be able to get around the country without speaking in English to communicate with native Japanese people. Or at least a very minimal use of spoken English.

I hope everyone achieves their goals and much more in 2012!

Goals to finish things or get to a certain point with your current endeavours aren’t so bad, but saying you’ll *start* something in the new year is kinda stupid – if you want to lose weight, or give up smoking, or start learning a language, just go ahead and do it; no sense waiting till the year ends to start (and most probably give up).

Well I think MisterM does have a point, But my goal is already something im trying to do anyway so Im gonna go with that. And also I have a personal goal that I want to achieve that just happened to arise during the new year given the certain situations that I was in.

I dunno, I kinda like the whole ‘new year, new start’ thing. I find it quite motivating.
I’m the kind of person who got excited about buying a new notepad today though…

Is it safe now to post my goals without being accused of having New Year resolutions? XD
    I plan to:
    - Finish Core 1000
    - Be able to read katakana fluently. Hiragana and kanji (yay!) are not the problem, but there is not much opportunity to read katakana, so I’m still struggling with every word in I come across.
    - Listen to more of Japanese radio. I know it would be the best to keep it running in background all the time, but it really messes up my concentration while doing… well, anything except playing Tetris :S But I will try it for a month to see if I can get used to it.
