A quick question as I’m troubleshooting the Kanji decks on my Droid:

Are the Kanji cards working perfectly well on your Droid, guys?

(I can’t view Kanji and can’t find a Japanese plugin.)

I haven’t tried the Kanji decks on my Android. Which deck is it and I will try it out and get back to you?

P.S. I am no expert as the previous AnkiDroid thread will tell you.

I’m not having any trouble on my phone (Samsung Charge) but I also downloaded the MultiLing Keyboard app. I don’t actually use the app, but it may have installed the Japanese text on my phone. Worth a try anyway.

I had the same issue. The media in the Kanji deck (TextFugu) are actually image files.

I discovered AnkiDroid wasn’t copying the *.media folder into the Anki folder on my phone when downloading.
I downloaded the decks using my browser and unpacked the files.
After manually copying the *.media folders in the same location, it all worked.

    I hope this helps.

I am using AnkiDroid with no issues displaying Japanese characters.

My only gripe with AnkiDroid is, I can’t seem to find a way to edit the way a card is displayed and add unshown fields to the card like I can with the PC version of Anki. When using the kanji-vocab anki decks, I prefer to be prompted with the Kanji opposed to the Hiragana characters, so I change it to suit my preference. Alas, this is not possible on AnkiDroid.

I decided to give the current beta version a try.
    http://code.google.com/p/ankidroid/downloads/list – AnkiDroid-1.0beta14.apk
I have a Samsung Captivate with AT&T running Android 2.2 Froyo and was able to side-load the application.
Right on the deck screen you can choose Card Swap and it works. It retains this setting for every deck, so you do have to check or uncheck as needed.
One default feature that you may want to change is in Menu Button -> Preferences -> Extras. I uncheck the Write answers option as I only use the Whiteboard.

I really like this Beta, it’s much faster loading on my phone. Also the Card Swap option is pretty nice. (I wouldn’t use it with an RTK deck though.)
Keep in mind that this is Beta so your mileage may vary.
