i mean like actually settle down and live there for years and years, not just a month or a couple of months or even a couple of years

i don’t think i want to live in japan, but i do want to visit often B) i think it’d be hard getting a good job there and dealing w/ discrimination (but i won’t get into that)

what about U? do u just wanna visit once? a lot of times? never? live there?

I’m kind of uncertain. Pondering whether to spend a year there doing JET or similar, but I don’t know how I feel about moving there for a whole year.

Certainly an extended holiday is on the books at some point…

Living there for an extended period of time, years, would rely upon having a strong community/social group to be in. Without that one would struggle – I’ve heard of a few people going through this problem.

I’d be game to do half a year there & working – but if that’s not possible, holiday there a lot!

I will stay in Japan for 6 months next year, so I think my opinion is fairly obvious :p I can’t really answer if I’d want to live there yet, but after my stay I should have a pretty good idea about whether or not that’s something I would consider.

I’m set on it, thought I would prefer to stay there for some time to see how it is

Hm, not particularly, but I wouldn’t mind visiting once my Japanese is of a better standard (and by that I mean the point where I can actually tell what the shit is going on most of the time). You can’t really know if you want to live somewhere permanently unless you’ve spent time there beforehand, living as a normal person rather than as a tourist. I’m sure there are a lot of people that develop a warped view of what living in Japan is like, then they end up there and decide they don’t like it because it’s not what they expected.
