Yesterday I had a small epiphany, partly because of Koichi’s inspiration newsletter saying to actually go to Japan, partly because of the video/article about JFDI (which I find very catchy :D), and partly because I just did.
I’ve been a huge fan of Morning Musume for a few years, which is an idol group along the lines of AKB48, kind of. But I’m a HUGE fan of this one member, Risa Niigaki. The members of Morning Musume graduate from the group at around 25, and she’s 22 now. That means that I have about two and a half years, hopefully, to save enough to get me and my best friend to Japan for her graduation concert.
I’m 13, but in two and a half years I’ll be 16 and my friend will be 18. I know it sounds crazy, but I definitely want to at least try to save enough money. If I don’t try, I’ll never even lay eyes on her and my chance will be gone and I’ll regret it. Yeah, I’m a loser, but I’m a loser with dreams. xD
So we’re going to try and get jobs at Target or Publix (I turn 14 next month) and sell oragami cranes and open an ArtFire shop and baby/pet/plant/housesit and a whole ton of other things to save money.
(And of course my mother approves of it and such. ^^)Just had to get that out somewhere, and I thought why not in the forums of my Japanese textbook…? Any advice? Thoughts? Phone numbers of therapists because I might have gone insane? ^^”
July 25, 2011 at 3:35 pm #14587So uh, I guess this makes us sworn enemies or something.
And what the hell, so you’ve been an MM fan since you were like 8?
Nah that’s a completely legit reason. In fact, I really hope you get to see Niigaki. Just make sure you save your money accordingly because you know those photobooks, singles, photos etc just keep on coming. Oh man, this completely warrants a mean idol joke from me but I won’t do it.
If I were you, not only should you start Japanese like every second, but you should also start making money ASAP. You never know if an early surprise graduation is going to come. This is basically my main reason for learning Japanese so its kind of heartening to see someone else to do the same. Just keep repeating this phrase to yourself as motivation:
アイドルは永遠じゃないんだから
アイドル は えいえん じゃないんだから
Idols aren’t forever (Idols don’t last forever)This is also my source of motivation. So I think if I can do it, you can do it too. Just stay motivated, and don’t forget your reasons because it’s easy to get lost and forget what’s important. I’ll definitely be willing to help you out.

Fcuk, if thats what makes you insane, then that must make me insane too.

July 25, 2011 at 3:51 pm #14590You can also join our teamspeak server and ask us questions whenever you want. you dont have to speak as we have text chat along with voice chat. I can definitely help you there
July 25, 2011 at 4:12 pm #14592Oh you’re 13 too? Well anyways I like what you want to do.
I don’t think you’re crazy, you just have dreams like me! Oh and you’ve gone to Japan?? Lucky!! I still need to apply for a visa and all that…
On a completely unrelated notice, I’m saving money (more like selling stuff) to get my dream laptop…July 25, 2011 at 4:42 pm #14596Your motivation for wishing to go to Japan and the lengths you’re willing to go to are really heartwarming and even inspiring. I honestly wish you the best and please don’t give up!
I lurk in the TeamSpeak chat at times so if I bump into you maybe we can have chats about nail art and Kimmidolls? :P
I’m a big Hello! Project fan but I’m more on the side of Buono!. I’m just such a huge fan of them 3 girls. *-*
July 25, 2011 at 6:17 pm #14597Hey, you and Kaona are both 12, so you should be buddies! lol!
I’m just teasing. Kaona throws bricks at me sometimes, and it is just delightful.
I seriously wish I had this kind of resource when I was your age, though. I just turned 21 yesterday. So, just know that you are (both) ahead of the curve, (the “age curve” anyway…) and you’ll definitely do really great if you give any effort. Good luck. It’s good to have goals.
July 26, 2011 at 8:33 am #14605Apply your hearts out and don’t get discouraged if they tell you no. The economy sucks, but just keep going. You’ll find some place eventually.
July 26, 2011 at 2:52 pm #14617It must be different in the US – in the UK, you have to be at least 16 to get a proper job :P I’m 18, been constantly looking for work and I’ve been unemployed for near enough a year XD
I don’t mean to put you off, though – you should totally go for it :) I guess the job market in the UK must be much more dire for young people than in the States >.<(You mentioned Target, so I assumed you live in the US haha)
July 26, 2011 at 3:46 pm #14621The age thing is different from State to state. Typically, you can get a service industry job at 14 provided you get permission from your school and that your hours a limited to something like 20 per week.
Apply to McDonald’s. It was not the all-around best, but certainly the most fun job I ever had.
July 27, 2011 at 5:33 pm #14673@missingno15 Haha, actually I got into them when I was about 10. Indeed, the stuff never stops coming. XD Ugh, a surprise graduation would be the worst. Good to see another idol fan here!
@Armando Actually this would be my first trip to Japan. ^^ Good luck with that, I’m typing on my little dream laptop (Hello Kitty keyboard stickers!) right now and I can tell you it is definitely worth it :D
@Kaona Back to Kaona, huh? :P Ooh, Buono! is what got me into H!P in the first place. I’m actually in the middle of watching their Re;Buono! concert right now. I’m a big Airi fan :D (Oh, and I’m always up for a chat!)
@MisterM24O2 Yup, I’m a States-er. I hope you get a job soon! ^-^
So… Publix is pretty much the only place us 14/15-year-olds know of that hire people our age, so everyone and their mother applies there. My friend applied there and said that the questions were all multiple choice, which is pretty terrible for me because I can be very poetic when it comes to impressing people with written stuff. xD I was planning to quote Roosevelt, darn it! So Publix is looking bleak, even though I’ll give it a shot every six months anyway. We’re going to try to get the word out in her neighborhood about our babysitting/dogwalking/housesitting business, so hopefully that’ll eventually make us a bit of money. And we spent the day today making and decorating paper cranes, which is actually pretty fun and not that hard. I’m writing kanji on the wings. ^^
My friend will be 16 in April, and when you’re 16 you can drive and people take you 100 times more seriously and you can apply pretty much anywhere. It’s looking like she has a much better chance at getting a job than I do, so I just have to keep folding origami and saving my birthday/Christmas money. By the way… I want to ask the people in Publix if we can put a table somewhere outside their store, but would that be weird? A couple of teenage girls (we look pretty young but we’re no girl scouts) asking to sell folded paper for $1 each in front of their store every weekend for two years? Maybe I’m delusional but I don’t think that’s the kind of thing they’d say “Sure, go right ahead” to. ^^”
Anyway, thank you guys for all the encouragement, guys! It means a lot to me.
July 28, 2011 at 7:43 pm #14714Good luck saving money to go to Japan, I know I’m already saving money (barely though, since there are no job openings anywhere near me) Hope you make enough money to go to Japan though. btw You actually gave me the idea to ask if I can sell stuff in publix :P
August 3, 2011 at 2:30 am #14914I wish you all the best! Keep at it and I hope you can achieve your goal! Save … EVERYTHING. As much as you can ^-^
By the way, about selling your crafts online, etsy.com is a free site (you just need to pay $0.20 per listing), which may work out cheaper than artfire. But … I think artfire gives you more customisation of your shop. Just thought I’d give you a link to etsy just in case you like that better :)
Don’t forget to give us a link to your online shop when you make it ;D
