I’m making this post to ask if anyone else has noticed a difference among some word recordings that contain double vowel sounds such as おう or まあ.
For example, the word 申し申し sounds more like もしもし than もうしもうし (http://www.textfugu.com/kanji/%E7%94%B3/#top), especially when you put it into comparison with words such as 王 (おう) or 王子 (おうじ) (http://www.textfugu.com/kanji/%E7%8E%8B/#top).
Do my ears fail me? Or are words like 申し申し an exception?
I think this is down to each persons pronunciation. Some people make the stress obvious on double vowel sounds others don’t. I think generally it probably doesn’t matter too much unless you get similar words like おばさん (aunt) and おばあさん (grandma).
