A while ago, Tofugu did a post on making the plastic display food you often see in Japanese restaurants. While casually Googling my user name (wanted to see what dirt they’ve got on me), I come across a native Japanese blog/news site that posted an article on the same topic, citing the Tofugu article as the source. Underneath the main body of the article, they feature several comments from the original – first translated to Japanese – one of them being mine :D I just thought this was kinda interesting, something unexpected to turn up. Also interesting to see how they’ve interpreted it and the differences between one and the other.

「レタスと天ぷらのレプリカの作り方を紹介してた番組があったんだけど、最初見たときはすげー！って思ったらまた最近同じような番組を見た。レプリカは何百種類もあるのに、なぜ毎回レタスと天ぷらなんだ？:D」I’m unsure what すげー！means since it’s not showing up on Rikai-kun. Is it a slang version of すごい?

I can’t seem to find their source though, so I’ve no idea when or where I said that. What it says is true so it must have been me, I just can’t remember saying it.Yes すげー means すごい. It is a very common abbreviation both in written and spoken language.

@missingno15: You seemed to stay relatively calm there haha. It’s bizarre that people can get so worked up over… well, anything really. Was all the jumping around and screaming really necessary? :P Is there a name for fans like that, like you might call My Little Pony fans “Bronies”?
By the way, how does もしよしければ work? I’m assuming from context it’s something like “If you liked that”, but can you really just stick ければ onto the end of よし? Unless the word is actually よしい, but the dictionary isn’t showing anything for that.

Not at all, I was the one screaming “OOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHH OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHH OOOOOHHHHHHHHHH” like I was about to scream WOMBOOOOO COMBOOOOOO. I was told to quiet down along with the other dudes because it was like 4-5am in the morning. But at the time it was necessary because it was really big.

You’re got it wrong, its (“よければ”) and not (“よしければ”) which goes along with the set phrase (“もしよければ”), where the adjective 良い is modified with the ば conditional.
Ah, that makes more sense. Must have just been a typo when you wrote it because I copied and pasted it directly.
