Hey, lately in my Japanese studies, I’ve felt like I’m making no progress. There’s nothing at my level to study. It’s all 10 steps ahead. I’m seeing the words I’ve learned here and there, but it’s not…. enough. Where can I go to get something really simple. I know a couple hundred words, I think. I haven’t sat down and counted them, or anything, so that’s just a rough approximation. I had somebody willing to talk to me in Japanese for a while, but they were so far ahead of me. Looking back, they’re only a little closer. I guess this has turned into a rant, but I just feel down. Is there a place to go and… talk? Or practice on some level? Thanks.

(I’m currently on Season 5. I’m not mad at Koichi. It’s a good pace. The vocabulary I’m learning with the ultimate decks and everything else is really useful, although it doesn’t go fast enough (but when I go faster, it’s too fast. :(   )  )

I can certainly understand how you feel there. However there’s not much more one can do than persevere, the brain can only take in so much at a time. My advise is to try and enjoy the processes that are available to you as much as possible, and forget about the desired result as much as you can too.

It’s sort of like with exams, if you stress out about whether or not you can pass, it will be an unpleasent experience and will impact your performance negatively…

Feeling down is ok though, and they say it builds character ;D

Thanks guys/girls. I really liked that article. Got me pumped for my Anki session. Been a bit since I’ve said that. :)

Whenever I feel down, or feel inadequate about my own ability, I usually read that same article again. Or I just relax and read Danny Choo’s How Discovering Japan Changed My Life

I’m glad I understood some of that. Except it was the  basic things, like 僕 or ロンドン. But take the victories or leave ‘em. I’m gonna take ‘em, ’cause I need them. :)
