i don’t know if there is already a thread about this (i didn’t really look to see if there was one) but http://www.videolan.org/vlc is free and LEGAL, and as i said, you get to watch DVDs from any region. also it is safe because it was recommended by the college i’m at.
anyway, sorry if this was useless, in any way!

VLC is a great player and the only one I use to watch videos. It also play FLAC files.

I always found VLC a bit sketchy when playing back DVDs from other regions, but what do I know, I don’t even own any computers with DVD drives anymore.

I can’t even remember the last time I used my DVD drive in my pc. The need for physical media is becoming less and less. Ultrabooks don’t even come with a DVD drive built in.

That Tofugu otaku video had me in stitches. I noticed it’s been two months since Koichi made a video. Any news on when a new one will be made?

It’s quicker for me to download DVDs than putting the real disc in and going through all the dumb menus/copyright ads! I have all 8 seasons of Seinfeld but what’s the point in using the DVD when I can download an episode every 30 seconds? Seinfeld DVDs specifically makes you sit through at least 20 secs of copyright stuff.

…enjoying my free 60MB upgrade most definitely!

I’m currently working my way through every episode of Seinfeld. I’m on season 5 at episode 79. Just over 100 left to go.

He’s been caught up with new TextFugu stuff and WaniKani, but you should drop him a line and let him know you’d like to see more videos.

Nice, it’s a great show. Thought S1&2 were a bit crappy but it really picks up from 3, and my bad there’s 9 seasons, oops!

@ ybb & k man – Speaking of Seinfeld, I’ve been getting into “Curb Your Enthusiasm”…Seinfeld updated & without the PG rating. It’s fantastic.

It’s no biggie, I can wait for when he has free time. Working on TextFugu and WaniKani is more important. Plus, I’ve still got to go through all the backlog of the older Tofugu video on YouTube.

Videos like these are absolutely hilarious http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=flBMpY7ZNX8&feature=plcp.

    @ Yggbert
I actually liked the first couple of seasons more than the later ones. Since season 3 there’s been a few episodes that have been average. In all, the series is my fav American show. I’ll make a list soon of my fav epps.

    @ andrew
I will probably watch that next. Season 7 is supposed to be a Seinfeld reunion.

Curb is hilarious, but Leon is comedy Jesus Christ descended from heaven above.

Ah, I remember Seinfeld, I always liked that show. One of the the very few shows on TV I’ll still watch. Been a while since I watched it, actually.

On the original topic of the thread, I’ll have to look into that player. As a dedicated Luddite, I’m still fond of having physical DVD’s for my favourite series, and I’ve been meaning to buy some imported ones that I wasn’t sure I could play.

Speaking of which, can the PS3 play imported DVD’s? I know it can play all games region-free, but I’m not sure about DVD’s. I seem to recall hearing that it could.
