    みなさん こんにちは!

Nice to meet you, everyone! I’m Hanaii from Perth, Western Australia. I work in the games industry in a bunch of different sectors, make props and music and now I am OFFICIALLY learning Japanese!

I’m really passionate about languages and I’ve been studying Japanese intermittently for a few years. I could never really stick to it because the classes/textbooks I’d use just weren’t keeping me focused (one used anime as a tool which is great but it assumed I already watch anime) or, if I did find a teacher that really kept me on track and excited, I’d have to move away. My family and I move around a lot for varying reasons so it was always hard to keep up with learning something.

Now, being in the games industry, I feel way more strong about learning Japanese. I have so many colleagues in Japan and already do work for companies there and the language barrier has always been a struggle with how little I know. I feel like if I learn the language, my career can blossom even further. And of course, I can become even closer with the friends I’ve made there.

And so here I am, really stoked to use TextFugu and get to talk to everyone. I’ve got a good feeling this is going to be a great experience. I hope we can all help each other out!!

    I too am in Perth.

Tell me, Captain Hanaii, do you ever go to the Hyogo Cultural Centre?

I used to, back in high school. I used to live right next to it, but now it’s kind of far away. I intend to go there again some day though, just need to find the motivation!
