Hello,
I’m Kyle jumping in with the half off sale. I have been studying through Tae Kim’s Japanese Guide since October and I decided why not use some of my Christmas money here!
I am obsessed with singing, it keeps me focused when studying and I walk so much that I’m always searching for a tune – whether on my ipod or worming it’s way through my head. In college I was introduced to Anime and if you can guess the OP / ED themes won me over. This past year I ran into the group Goose House, and found their amazing Youtube channel where they cover all sorts of Japanese music. Thanks to Tae Kim and some of the resources on Tofugu I have already been singing along to the chorus of a few songs and took the time to memorize others (小さな恋の歌 by Mongol800 being my favorite).
I guess my goal is not as sociable as others, I don’t see myself affording to go to Japan anytime soon, but it’s still a good goal! I am pursuing my skills as an artists so maybe I’m wasting precious time here, but I don’t think so. Japan in my opinion has been ground breaking in animation and comics so I don’t seem my focus turning away from there any time soon. While I will try to read some beginner manga (Yatsuba to – and Dragon Ball for example) I’m in this for the music and for how many smiles I get from watching Goose House perform. As for anime I prefer dubs anyways, when I’m drawing I don’t have time to read subs and I’m years away from listening to Japanese dubs.
Oh! And Buddhism, but I guess that is more of a Tibetan thing. Still I guess if I can pick one pipe dream it would be me saving up money so when I reach my 30s I’ll go for a week or month to explore the more quiet places in Japan.
がんばります!
PS: I own a drawing tablet and I must say it is amazingly cool that I can write kanji I find in Dragon Ball right on the screen. Of course without stroke order I have to guess a few times but the recognization software seems to be spot on.

I think that’s a perfectly excellent reason to learn Japanese. I think learning a new language even just for the sake of learning a new language is admirable, because it can help expand how you think.
This place is a wasteland :(January 4, 2015 at 1:54 pm #47104Buddhism is about as much Tibetan as it is Japanese. =P
January 8, 2015 at 7:50 am #47176Hello everybody.
So I’ve started from the beginning and I must say it’s a little slow, maybe having Tae Kim’s lessons behind me makes these early Textfugu lessons less interesting. But I’ll just power through them to pick up anything I may have missed and look forward to picking up new knowledge!

When I read you’ve used Tae Kim I thought the beginning would be a little boring.
In general I would say TextFugu is more motivating than Tae Kim.
Btw.. I love you because you are an artist.
If you think it is too slow and you got the surplus, you can always import a few kanjis to you anki deck in advance and study a little harder. That’s what I did, and now I’m very glad I did it.
幸運を祈ります。 -
