It’s been years since I first used Textfugu, and quite frankly I am so done with this website.

I’m really tired of the total lack of updates for years, as well as different people asking the same questions over and over again. I don’t blame those people, but I think Textfugu should’ve found a way to respond to this a long time ago.
The lessons here are quite disappointing and can hardly help a person pass even the N5 in my opinion. The amount of money Textfugu charges is also unsatisfactory, considering that there are so many other free resources online that far surpass what Textfugu covers.
I’m also displeased at the fact that there are no native Japanese speakers available on this website for tutoring and advice. I often see people on this website who think they have an idea of what they are talking about even though they are actually misunderstanding the grammar point completely. It’s sad to see people (both beginners and intermediate learners alike) using these misunderstandings as the foundation of their Japanese learning and continuing on into the future.
Although Textfugu has certain points that I found beneficial for people who are absolutely new to learning languages, I don’t think it is a resource capable of teaching adequate Japanese for beginners. I’m thankful for all the years I have been here, but it’s time for me to go.

To tell you the truth, I was demotivated after the end of season 4, I was at the dip.
Right now after some time, I’m at season 5 and I’m starting to notice that the method throws you a lot of grammar and vocabulary but it doesn’t have short stories for you to read and practice like we do when we are learning any language, so they tell you to keep practicing with the SRS system(Anki), but the more you study the more vocabulary you have to memorize, and I think it would be much easier to associate these words with pictures instead of trying to memorize with Anki, which is very boring, so I’ll always type the new words into Google Images, that really helps me a lot.
I still have lots of vocabulary lists but the method doesn’t give us much examples on how to use all of these words. I don’t think it is a very good method now, because a good textbook should make us practice everything.
I’ve noticed that by the end of season 8, it has only two short stories, so will they throw me tons of grammar and expect me to read something only at the end ? That’s demotivating.

There’s a reason they’re building etoeto, but yeah, this place is really lacking unfortunately. I liked it for the basics though.

Yeah, I feel you. I’m only still here because I got a lifetime account. Etoeto seems really promising and I can’t wait to give it a try.
