    Hi!
My name is Linda and I’m from Germany.
I’ve already completed a 2 year Japanese language course at my university, but that was some time ago so I’ve forgotten a lot. My motivation for learning >>again<< (I guess I was about JLPT Lv4 – shame on me for letting it slide) is that I want to visit Japan on my honeymoon and I don’t care much for tourist traps… so communicating with locals would be of use ;)
My English is good enough for learning another language, I guess. :)
The main Problem I’m going to face is discipline to achieve adequate grammar (again – it was pretty good I think), finally learn to read better than a first grader and write swiftly without making it look ugly.
    よろしくおねがいします。*bows*
P.S.: I really should figure out how to type kana on my computer without copying… >.>

Welcome! Old level four or new level four? I just finished a three-year course at uni last year, and sat for N3 in December, though I won’t get my results until March. Bah. It hasn’t even been two months since then, though, and I’m already losing stuff from sheer lack of practice.

As for travelling in Japan, you know the “tourist traps” are often tourist traps because they’re actually worth visiting. Where were you intending to avoid, exactly? And where were you hoping to visit instead? =)

As for typing in kana: http://www.textfugu.com/season-4/social-learning/9-2/

Good question if it was the old or new level.. when did it change? a friend of mine took the N2 this year :) I’m nowhere near as good as her.
Constant practice is the only way not to decline.. reading manga or japanese blogs/newssites as well as watching TV/Streaming seems like the way to go but that’ll take some practice ^_^ at least that’s what did it for me with english… Hopefully I’ll find something that catches my interest this time!

I’ll be sure to visit some tourist traps like (nearly everything in?) Kyoto or Nara or Ise or places like that, but I’d like to order a dish of udon in some backwater village as well without stumbling over my words.. well I’ve got until May 2016 for that!

    Thank you for the links!
And Happy new Year to you all as well!

P.S.:I’m happy to have my english corrected as well if there are errors ;)

I don’t recall exactly when they changed it. Four or five years ago? Basically they stuck an extra level between 2 and 3, and shifted 3 and 4 to 4 and 5. Simply put, if there’s five levels in total, it’s the new JLPT. Four levels is the old one.

Yah, Kyoto and Nara are certainly worth visiting. I never managed to get to Ise, though. Speaking of ordering dishes of udon, though, I did find myself in a restaurant in Koya-san which had an English menu, but not an English-speaking waiter. That was fun.

well I’ve got until May 2016 for that!

Oh? You’ve got an actual date in mind? This isn’t just a “someday when I get married, I’m gonna have my honeymoon in Japan”?

    Congrats. =)

P.S.:I’m happy to have my english corrected as well if there are errors ;)

Been looking pretty good so far. I was almost hoping you’d make a mistake in this sentence for the pure irony of it, but all I can comment on is that “English” has a capital E. =P

oh I guess it was the new level 4 then.. at least our teacher wanted us to participate but failed to mention that we had to register way before the new class started in autumn…… so everyone missed it
    -_-

Thank you :) We had a small civil wedding in December but wanted a bigger party with more people, a ceremony in a church and a nice long honeymoon. we have to save up a bit in order to do that so it’ll be 2016! gives me more time to polish my japanese that way ;)

capital letters… i tend to screw up on that since it’s used so infrequently – not that I take to much care to use caps anyways ;)

    Schönen Abend!

Ah, yeah. For the test in December, you need to apply before something like the end of September. Though we got a slight extension here this year, because the online form they were using for applications wasn’t working correctly.
