    Hello,

I’m 19, and live in the United States.

I’m studying Japanese here because I found out I’ll be serving a religious sabbatical in the Hokkaido prefecture for two years starting in October, and I want to get as much of a head start on learning the language as possible. I’m really looking forward to it, and I’m all ears for suggestions on resources for learning about Japanese customs and religion, as well as the language.

    Welcome! What religion? =)

But… isn’t July a bit short-notice to be told you’re going to Japan for two years in October?

    LDS church.

I’ve known that I’ll be going somewhere for a while, it’s just that the specifics of where exactly were recently revealed to me. I’m quite excited. Honestly, I almost wish I’d be going sooner. Right now all I’m doing is waiting around preparing, since college is out.
