Hi, I’m Kas. I figured it’s time to actually get on the forums. I’ve been using TextFugu for a month or so, but I’m more of a lurker than a commenter. I recently finished grad school, so I’ve been figuring out what to do next. One of the things I’d love to do is teach English in Japan. It didn’t work out for this summer, but I’m hopeful that maybe I’ll have better luck on a second try. I’ve known people who had a great time in the JET Program, which is part of what’s made me want to go there to teach. I like where I currently live (Boston, MA, USA), but I want to travel and experience the world while I’m still young.

I got interested in Japan through art, anime, and video games. In recent years I’ve been more interested in art and history than the things I loved as a teen, and I would love to be able to read and understand Japanese because of what I’d like to be able to study. In December, I completed a Master of Fine Arts in Nonfiction Writing, so I do gravitate towards writing about things that require research. Being able to at least locate resources on my own would be fantastic, even if I wouldn’t necessarily be able to read it all without help :)
