Greetings everyone, my name is Thor, but for in Japanese I have started to go by Kazuya, as my family are German and the only way I’ve seen Thor translated in Japanese is Tor or Toru, where tor in german means door. I am no door. But I have Started learning japanese in little bits myself for over a year now, but keep getting distracted, so now i am making it part of my schedule and being more active about it, for i wish to become a worldwide translator/Teacher, and i wish to visit and write down the story of each shrine in Japan. I look forward to learning with you all.:) よろしく!

Welcome! Gotta admit, I think “Thor” is cooler. If you want alternate transliteration options, the Marvel comics character is transliterated as ソー. Dunno if that’s a huge improvement, though. =)

There’s a LOT of shrines in Japan. You could be at it for a while. =P

Yea that is why it would be a life long thing, and they all are so different it would almost always be interesting. And I’m still practicing on katakana, is that technically そお?But if so yea not much improvement, and yea Thor is definitely cool in english, but i chose Kazuya because of the research into it i found it written 和矢 which without knowing exactly seems to be harmony arrow.

Aye, ソー = そう. Typically I’d advise against picking a Japanese name unless absolutely required to for whatever obscure legal reason, though I’d have to admit Kazuya isn’t too bad a choice. 和矢 is harmony + arrow as you discovered.

As for the shrines, I’d say it’d be a lifelong task. There’s estimated to be about 100,000 shrines in Japan, so even if you could somehow manage to do one per hour, eight hours a day, it’d take you thirty-four years to visit them all. Good luck, though – if post your writings on a blog, I’d love to read it. =)

Hmm. I didnt know there were that many I knew there were a lot though, I may not be able to complete it in my lifetime but I’ll do my best maybe someone will finish for me.
