Hey, everyone! I’m Zack, and I’m a third-year Computer Science student at a (relatively) small school in Boston. My current internship leaves me quite a bit of free time, so I figured, why not study Japanese in that time?
I’ve been studying Japanese off-and-on for about eight or nine months now, and I decided that it was about time I really buckled down and studied. I’ve always been interested in foreign languages, but I really dislike the way languages are taught in public schools; my college doesn’t even offer language classes, so the only avenue remaining is to learn by myself! So after spending a little bit of time finding resources, I picked up TextFugu during the sale.
There are a few reasons I decided to learn Japanese rather than another language. First of all, I just think the language is interesting and challenging; I’m always looking for ways to keep my mind active, so learning a language definitely keeps me busy. I also want to learn Japanese for business reasons. To be more specific, the company I currently intern for likes to hang on to their interns when possible, and also has a presence in Japan. My office occasionally communicates with Japanese customers; nobody in the office speaks Japanese, which makes things pretty difficult.
This is a bit of a dream of mine, but I would like to one day move to Japan to teach English. I know that teaching is pretty far removed from the tech sector, but the interest is there. Besides, a man can dream, no?
I’m not great at introducing myself, but there you go. I look forward to being part of this community!
