Hi, everyone! Introductions are not a strength of mine, so please excuse the awkwardness.
My name is Emile. I’m not a particularly interesting person although I do a mean impression of one. Fun facts: The cat in my avatar is named after a character in Super Mario RPG. Also, I like bananas.
I’m studying Japanese because I feel an instinctive pull toward the country and culture. My favorite bands and films come from Japan, some of my favorite books were translated from Japanese. Things like mori fashion and the wabi-sabi aesthetic were present in me before I found out Japan had given them a name. In a way, I feel like I can’t not study Japanese. I want to understand the language, and by extension, the culture, as fully as possible.
As for something tangible: When I was a teenager, the film ‘All About Lily Chou-Chou’ had a profound effect on me that I carry to this day. It’s my goal to be able to read the original novel that preceded the screenplay.
I’ve already completed season one, so from today, I’ll continue with season two. If you catch me slacking in the off topic threads, be a friend and tell me off, okay? ;)
Thanks for reading!
