    I love TextFugu.

Literally just pressed the button to enter season 4. BAM! Adjectives list smacks me in the face. Bring it on!

I also just read that whole Jerry Seinfeld productivity secret with the calendar chain. Since I’ve pretty much done anki every single day for over 2 months now I dont have to do the chain for it since its drilled into my routine. I’ve instead utilized it for my creative writing. TextFugu is just awesome for life in general, not Japanese alone.

When I first used Textfugu as a beginner, I thought it was awesome too.

    As for now? Hmmm….

    What’s your issue, Tsetycoon?

Ever tried. Ever failed. No matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better.

Tsetycoon13 – I am quiet new to textfugu, so I don’t know how much help I can be; I can’t voucher for textfugu’s efficacy either, but…I think the whole point of this site is to instill certain traits in you that are productive and useful for learning a new language. Think of these skills or habits as the engine to your Japanese train and your motivation or desire as the gas. this site definitely helps give you gas in the beginning, but any third-party gas is not going to be as clean or powerful as gas you make yourself. I definitely have had my second-thoughts about learning Japanese and I have had tons of doubts in the efficacy of the methods I’ve chosen.

Just keep this in mind as you progress. This doesn’t just go for textfugu, but any methods or habits you use to learn Japanese: Do not get your ways set in stone to the point that it is no longer effective for you.

I’m not here to cast doubt on the textfugu method. I’m here to remind you to keep to keep a mental check and balance of what you are doing. I started with Pimsleur, grew out of it. Moved to Heisig method, finished it. Went to SRS sentences, got bored. That’s where I quit. Instead of quitting, I should have realized, maybe this is a good tool, but I shouldn’t be doing it 100% of the time.

That’s why I am here. To find new tools, new motivation and ultimately succeed at Japanese. In the end it is you that has to put in the work, it is you that has to understand the grammar and voacb. It is you that has to put forth the effort. Everything else is just a useful(hopefully) tool to use along the road.

Tsetycoon has just been around the site for a very long time. So he has seen the multitude of questions that have been asked over and over again about the same things as they are sometimes unclear in the text, or a typo, or an actual error. And these things haven’t been fixed for years as Koichi stopped working on TF for a long time to do the Kanji project WaniKani (which is great for learning Kanji btw) and then when he came back to TF he did a small update of new material, but didn’t fix the old stuff, and then decided he was going to redo the site completely, rather than take care of the errors or confusions, and TF hasn’t been touched since.

So for people who have been around a long time, it’s rather disheartening as we have been waiting for the updates for years, and it’s likely going to be another year, at the least, before we see anything new.
