Hajimemashite. Usagi to moushimasu. Yoroshiku onegaishimasu. I think I pretty much used up what I know without having to look at a phrase book or something. I’d like to visit Japan and be able to get around and speak to people without having to depend on my relatives to translate. Other than that I’d like to keep the grey cells active. I look forward to learning from TextFugu!
August 3, 2011 at 1:35 am #14910Welcome to TextFugu! Good luck studying!
Do your relatives live in Japan? Or do they just know Japanese? Are you a foreign born Japanese?
August 3, 2011 at 1:42 am #14911KiaiFighter, arigatou for the welcome!
Most of my relatives live in Japan and all of my relatives speak Japanese. I’m the exception ;(. Although I was born in Tokyo, I left too early to remember the language and for some reason I was raised only speaking and hearing eigo. Go figure!August 3, 2011 at 1:48 am #14912Ahh, interesting!
I’m actually French Canadian, but neither of my parents spoke French. (All of my Grandparents could speak French, but sent their children to English school, so it ended with my parents)
Now I live in Japan and forget all the French I learned in Elementary and High School… It has all been replaced by Japanese. If I even try to speak in French, just Japanese comes out!
August 3, 2011 at 1:58 am #14913Wow, how do you like living in Japan? I think I’d like to do it for a while. Demo, I’d miss Hawaii and would have to come home.
August 3, 2011 at 5:56 am #14919Living in Japan is great. I’ve been here for two years so far. Planning to stay at least one more.
August 3, 2011 at 8:58 am #14921Hey! You’re not a rabbit!
August 3, 2011 at 10:21 am #14926Welcome to TextFugu, Usagi!
Usagi is one of my favourite Japanese words and your picture of a rabbit just adds to the complete awesomeness. T_T
So, are you full Japanese or just partial? It’s so cool that you have a lot of relatives in Japan and that you were born in Tokyo.
Good luck learning Japanese! :D
August 3, 2011 at 8:07 pm #14970Minasan, konnichiwa! KiaiFighter, how lucky for you to be living there. Mmmm, just thinking about the food makes me hungry.
Ha, ha, hashi-san. How do you know I’m not an usagi. Have you seen me yet? I may have very dexterous paws! ^_^.
Kaona-san, arigatou for the welcome and the encouragement. I’m glad you like my picture. I’m full Japanese as far as I know. Which makes it a little embarrassing I have to learn the language. Demo, it’s fun ne?
August 3, 2011 at 8:29 pm #14971Shame on you and your romaji.
Here’s some instructions on installing Japanese IME on your computer (windows) so you can type ひらがな just by pressing Alt + Shift. Neato.

Go. Go now, and never look at romaji, again. ;P

ありがとうございます for the tip and link. ほんとに neato.
This is really fun! またありがとうございます。Now I need to learn more にほんご。August 3, 2011 at 9:08 pm #14973Type 2 n’s for ん
It can be pretty tricky for words like こんにちは where you have to type like 3 n’s in a row. lol.
For small kana like っ you can type it out just like you would in romaji, like in the word けっこん (kekkon) or type an x before typing the small kana. The x thing takes some getting used to. Doesn’t work like “xtsu” you have to type “xtu” to get っ. It’s weird, just screw around with it.
You should be able to change it to カタカナ by pressing Alt + CapsLk, and there should be a feature where you can press the space bar to cycle through kanji conversions (if you want them).
Now, you have no excuse if we see you using romaji again, right うさぎさん? :P
ようこそ
