I had to go back and check when I first signed up (paid) for textfugu… end of April this year (and probably spent about 2 weeks on the free lessons to make sure I’d get past the biggest “I quit” hurdle).
Currently I’ve just finished working through the last of the い adjectives in season 2 and ready to actually START learning some grammar again =).
Although I still feel lost in the language, I feel like I’ve learned a LOT of useful things (like, how to study vocab, how to study it more efficiently, and will learn how to study even more efficiently), and have not hit a real burn out point. Right now I’m in a race with Koichi… Will I finish season 2 before he finishes season 3
(that actually gives me a good reason to not worry about moving slowly).
Oh, and amazon finally confirmed they’ve shipped my copy of RTK 6th Ed… so my proficiency in wingdings should sky rocket soon ;)
July 20, 2011 at 1:35 pm #14317I feel as if I am lower intermediate. I went through all of textfugu and have started over going over everything again and I seem to be retaining at least 90% of what I learned earlier. This time through, I am going a bit slower than before and taking advantage of the updated lessons an extra Anki lists. I will be attending a university this fall and they have three courses in Japanese beginner, intermediate, and advanced. I will have a jump start on everyone else. Hopefully, I might be able to test out of the beginner stuff and jump right into the intermediate level. Thanks, Koichi and don’t worry I will still log on and use this service when I have the time. I need to find someone to talk to too, which will definitely help with my speaking. コウイチ先生、どうもありがとうございます!

July 20, 2011 at 8:32 pm #14348@Mister yea one word responses dont work not only because she already figured out hai and iie but also because normally instead of yes i say aye and if i dont hear her i usually just yell EH!? … fun thing about annoying people with foreign languages is that since they dont understand you your grammar doesnt have to be any good at all :P
@watarimono I demand the name/phone number/address of that Miku cosplayer… i intend to propose to her… if its you… marry me…

I hope i continue and improve… I made a nice improvment
July 27, 2011 at 5:11 pm #14671I’ve been a member of textfugu since september 2010 I didn’t really study much the first few months. I didn’t get serious until about december / january when I picked up RTK which went good until the halfway point where I just stopped adding new kanji, and kept reviewing the ones I had already added to my deck, for about 2 months or so.
I picked it up again about a month ago and I’m now 3/4 through it.
next to RTK i’ve also been doing readthekanji doing textfugu lessons and reading up on grammar.I’m still really a beginner but i’m starting to see steady improvements in my understanding of the language.
Just trying to read and understand japanese sentences has helped me a lot as well.
I think my main focus for the next 6 should be, to gain confidence and try and actualy speak the language. -
