Hi! I’m Aaron, nice to meet you all!

For the longest time, I have wanted to become bilingual. Not just because of the great mark it becomes on a resume, but also for the fact that it really can change your life in huge ways. An entire culture becomes wide open to you, massive stores of experiences that you would have never had without a second language.

I want to become bilingual so that I may do just that. I want to learn about, and possibly live in a culture other than the one I was raised in.

I finally settled on Japanese to be my second language because the culture in Japan has always been a huge interest to me. Sure, a lot of people think they’re all crazy (and for good reason), but the Japanese culture also has this charm to it that has attracted me for years.

I finally decided to “JFDI” and get started. It took a while, but since I started about a month ago, I’ve already learned all of Hiragana, I know about 20-25 words, and I’m well on my way to learning more. Most of all though, I haven’t looked back. I’ve enjoyed every second of it, and I want to keep pushing forward.

With that said, I hope to get to know you all as we work together to learn Japanese!

ともだち こんにちわ! (Did I do that right? =D)

    Welcome to TextFugu, Aaron!

    Good luck learning Japanese.

Just a tip: I don’t think it’s necessarily wrong to write こんにちわ but it’s a lot better to write こんにちは instead. は is used in place of わ in word endings a lot.

That’s interesting, didn’t know that. Or at least, I haven’t encountered anything like that yet (or at least nothing that I’ve noticed). I’ll look into that, thanks!
