Hi, I’m Ed and I’m 19 years old. I’ve been interested in learning Japanese since I was 12, but it was only a few years ago I actually being proactive about learning.
I’m completely self-taught, as no school I’ve ever been to has offered Japanese, so I mostly depend on what I can find on the internet. A while back I found Textfugu and Wanikani and I have to say they are the most helpful tools I’ve ever used.

Now, about the reason I want to learn Japanese. That’s kind of tough. When I was younger I honestly just wanted to learn because I thought it sounded cool and I liked anime, but as I got older I realised that I simply love the language and all its intricacies. I would really like to be able to speak it in place of my native tongue (English) because I like the way it feels on my tongue and the way it sounds when you hear someone speak it. I want to understand it enough to be able to laugh at all the puns that are left out in English translations and learn feelings that have words in Japanese but not English. I also want to be able to watch anime and play games in Japanese, haha.

I’ll leave it at that. I think I’ve talked for too long. Anyway, I’m happy to be here and I hope to participate in the community as well as learn more.

    Welcome!

Ah, puns. I’ve been working on a translation of a drama series, and I try my best to retain the puns, but sometimes it’s a stretch, even in the original Japanese. =P
