I’m chrisatola and I’ve been self studying for almost two years. I want to gain fluency in Japanese because I practice a Japanese martial art and want to be able to communicate with my instructors when I visit Japan for training. Additionally, I want my trips to Japan to be easier because I have some level of Japanese (and not expect people to speak English to me in their homeland).

Trips to Japan? Just how many times have you been?
I’ve been three times. It’s a fabulous place, if you haven’t been. Every time I get back I’m ready to go again.

Actually, we’re just starting the planning for a group trip for my university society in maybe December or January, but getting people to commit to it is… difficult.
yeah, i imagine that could be a bit tough. it’s a pretty big trip for some folks. i wish you luck in it coming together!
