Hi! I have a little bit of history with Japanese studies, which sort of left me feeling incomplete in some sense.

I started some Japanese classes in college almost by accident and something quite strange happened there. My teacher was this really tough, but totally personable Japanese woman, my favorite Japanese teacher yet. She was the type who whips you into shape and gets a fire burning in your gut and makes you fall desperately in love with the subject…which is exactly what happened to me. And I was awesome at it and studied with her for almost two years.

But then I transferred to uni and I had two different teachers there, both were sweet old ladies that were as dull and lifeless in their teaching as they were in their interest in students. They demanded nothing and inspired nothing in me, except laziness, it was almost like self study, except far far more depressing…

Anyway, it’s over two years after I backed out now and it’s time to finish this puppy. So here are my major reasons for getting back into it and getting to the point of completion: It generally makes me happy. I want to reconnect with my first Japanese teacher (who has also become a very good friend of mine) and speak with her in Japanese. I want to one day go to Japan and possibly teach there (languages are kinda my thing).

So hello everyone and let’s get learning!

Svetlana – It’s amazing how much teachers influence our desire to learn, isn’t it? I’m glad you found your way back to Japanese after the two teachers who didn’t care!

Good luck with your studies! :)
