Hello! I’m a new member of the site and my name is Rose. I’ve been learning little snippets of Japanese on and off for a few years but nothing really substantial as I was always scared off by looking at kanji.

I worked through TextFugu’s season 1 as a refresher and I really liked the way the lessons are written and the multiple types of practice to do to really enforce things. I umm’d and ahhhh’d over whether to join up but after finishing season 1 and taking a good a week to make my mind up, I decided I really wanted to continue with what I had started. I want to be able to look at words written in kanji and not feel the need to run away screaming!

My main reason for wanting to learn Japanese is probably similar to a lot of people’s – I want to be able to read websites, manga and video games – but I would also like to know the language so I can read things like knitting patterns and recipes and all sorts of other things too!

I don’t have that much free time but I’m aiming to do a small amount most days and above all, keep working at it. :)

Hi Rose – welcome! I too want to be able to read Japanese knitting patterns! I am also a quilter and would love to learn some Japanese patchwork.

Welcome and good luck with your studies!
