I signed up for a membership last year sometime, before the birth of my daughter. I was pretty smitted with the AJATT method, which is something I am doing now. Basically though, I didn’t realize just how difficult raising my daughter would be (I am a stay at home Dad, although I do work nights) so I found it hard to keep the motivation for learning Japanese. I fell off the wagon, but I did retain some things.
Now, I have more free time. Earlier this year I decided to stop indulging in my vices, which were mostly gaming related, and to dedicate more time to learning. I started reading books of all kinds but eventually found my way back to Japanese, since I desire to be multilingual. Japanese has always been a “go to” language for me simply because, regardless of its utility in my life, I have always had an interest in the culture, the media, etc. That was my logical reasoning for learning Japanese above something else; I have a vested interest in it.
So now I am trying again. I re-learned my Kana, since I had forgotten some, which I have done over the course of a week or so. I have gone to great lengths to set up an immersive environment in the daytime, to absorb Japanese writing and audio whenever possible, and I have actually found that has helped. I game now, but I restrict it to Japanese games only.
I just wanted to say hello again since it has been so long. Textfugu was the method I was using before, so I am using it now as well. I am near the end of Season 1, although I learned Katakana early just because I had already done so once before.
