はじめまして!
私はキース。TextFuguのが好きだよ。私の大学では、日本語のクラスがあない。でも、一人で日本語を習う。語は楽しいと思う。
今年、一月から六月まで、日本で住んでいった。留学生だった。日本はすごいね!帰りたい!英語の先生がなりたい。
If anyone has questions about living in Japan, I’d be happy to answer them… I don’t know much Japanese beyond what I just wrote, though. よろしく!
*Also, does anyone know how I can get access to WaniKani? I got approved for the Beta a long time ago, but never received a confirmation email.
November 11, 2013 at 12:06 pm #42324Welcome! I have a question: did you take photos? =D
Also, small pointer: the negative of ある is just ない. Also, not entirely sure if 帰る is the appropriate verb to use there, since it’s only used to refer to returning to a place that you call home.
November 11, 2013 at 12:55 pm #42325I took tons of pictures! –– and shot video!!
The whole trip is actually documented on my travel blog… http://kbjapan.wordpress.com/
And here is a link to one of my videos… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fo2DWMA_Lb8
Thanks for the grammar tips (^-^)b

November 11, 2013 at 3:12 pm #42328Oh boy, travel blog. Love travel blogs.
Mine’s at http://japan.jrudd.org though we were only there for two weeks, and it’s almost completely lacking in pictures. I did make a digital scrapbook with my pictures, though.
November 11, 2013 at 3:52 pm #42329Thanks for the TextFugu tips, Aikibujin.
And Joel, looks like you had a lot of fun in Japan. You visited a lot of places! Did you have a favorite city or place on your trip? I spent most of my time in Osaka, but went to Kyoto a handful of times and flew to Tokyo for a three-day weekend. I really wish I could have spent more time in Tokyo, but I loved Osaka and it was so close to Kyoto… Lots of beautiful, interesting places to see.

November 11, 2013 at 4:56 pm #42331Loved Miyajima. Kyoto and Koya-san were good too, but I so want to go back to Miyajima just to wander around. Or any city like it, really – Onomichi is high up on my list of places to visit if I ever get to go back again.
November 12, 2013 at 3:56 am #42334初めまして! クリスです。お願いします!
しつもんがある。「TextFuguのが好きだよ」、どうして「の」を書きましたか?。「私の大学では」、どうして「では」を書きましたか?「日本語のクラスがあない」、「あない」のない-formは「ない」。
Nice to meet you :-) I just have a few questions about your Japanese sentence. Why do you have の after TextFugu? I usually say ~が好きだよ, is there any difference? Also, why では after 私の大学? I just know that では/じゃ is used like “well, then” or like in じゃない. And in “日本語のクラスがあない”, you want to say that you don’t have Japanese classes, right? And use informal speech, so you want to use the nai-form of あります? That’s “ない” I think. Or is it some other verb?
Sorry for all my questions, I’m just curious since I’m mostly speak Japanese in class, and haven’t seen the grammar you used before.
Anyway, glad you liked Japan, I moved here (Tokyo, later Hitachi, Ibaraki) 2.5 months ago and really enjoy it :-)
November 12, 2013 at 12:20 pm #42335Also, why では after 私の大学? I just know that では/じゃ is used like “well, then” or like in じゃない.
That’s location particle で plus topic marker は, which is not the same as ではない. =)
November 12, 2013 at 6:20 pm #42337@Christopher Dahlin, there should be no の in my sentence TextFuguのが好きだよ
I confused the grammar with saying something like 読むのが好き woops! And thanks for the heads up on the negative informal tense of ある :)
As for では、it’s two particles, as Joel said. では makes the location the topic of the sentence, which in this case is my university and it’s having no Japanese classes, 私の大学… That’s the grammar in using では、but as for whether it was absolutely necessary in this case, I’m not completely sure. But I think so!
I’d love to live in Tokyo for a little while. It’s absolutely huge! I was only there for three days. I spent my four months in Osaka, which is huge too but much smaller in comparison for Tokyo. That ended up being good for me, as I’d never lived in a city before. Osaka was just big enough, and the transportation was (thankfully) a breeze.
November 12, 2013 at 8:44 pm #42340What did you use for transportation?
November 13, 2013 at 1:41 am #42343Thanks! I haven’t learned the double particles yet, except in combination with も :-)
I really should visit Osaka too. And Kyoto. And Nara. And.. a lot of places, haha. Soon I’m moving to Hitachi-shi in Ibaraki-ken, so I’ll probably travel around then. I’m living in northern Shinjuku now, so the location is great.
Any places you’d recommend going to in particular? :-)
November 13, 2013 at 2:12 pm #42347Christopher, you should definitely go to the Tsukiji fish market!! You’ll have to wake up very early but it’s incredible. You can see all the fish hauled in that are to be auctioned to restaurants and sold and eaten that afternoon. The place is HUGE and you can see everything under the sea!
And Aikibujin, I used a plane to travel to Japan and another plane to fly from Osaka to Tokyo… Some people use night buses, but depending on when you go, a plane is actually cheaper. I also did couch surfing when I went to Tokyo…
November 13, 2013 at 2:18 pm #42349Finished reading your blog. Looks like you visited a lot of nice places – I’d like to visit some of those. The Philosopher’s Walk has been on my list of places to see for quite a while. =)
November 13, 2013 at 2:26 pm #42350You said ” Osaka was just big enough, and the transportation was (thankfully) a breeze.”
I assumed you meant the transportation around Osaka?
